Frequently Asked Questions

A minimum of two (2) guests is required for each tour departure time to operate. Ziptrek reserves the right to cancel a tour if these minimums are not met. Ziptrek will contact any guests who may be impacted by this policy directly to discuss options such as paying for an additional spot, rescheduling or cancelling.

Guests will be required to check-in 15 minutes prior to their tour time. This will be covered off in booking confirmations and pre tour e-mails sent.

The check-in location is defined and shown here.

If a participant arrives to check in for their tour after the tour departure window time they will not be permitted on the tour and will be charged full price for the missed tour.

Adventure sport activities have risks and each guest is required to read and sign our Release of Liability. The ziplines are checked daily by our highly qualified guides and we've had no incidents of line breakages. Ziptrek has always maintained an outstanding safety record and we do everything within our power to minimize the risk you are exposed to.

The Sasquatch® has our newest and longest line, a true monster at over 2kms in length. It launches high up on Blackcomb Mountain at an elevation near 1,500 metres, and guests will reach speeds well over 100 km/h! Not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for the ultimate zipline experience - this is it! (Available summer season only).

Winter Après Tour take place in the early evening hours, often starting at dusk during the amazing alpenglow period and ending in the dark. Zipping at night provides its own unique thrill. This tour has 4 thrilling ziplines and is the perfect après activity! (Available winter season only).

TreeTrek Tours provide a non-zipping option that visits the same pristine area. Guests journey high amongst the treetops on a spectacular network of suspension bridges, suspended stairways, boardwalks and trails on a memorable tree canopy adventure. Back for Summer 2023.

Winter:
In winter, we recommend wearing layers of outdoor clothing. Generally we suggest wearing the same thing you'd wear skiing or snowboarding. Several (but not all) of our platforms have heaters, so guests can use those opportunities to seek out some additional warmth, if they wish.

Summer:

  • Wear comfortable, supportive athletic or hiking shoes. No open toed shoes allowed, thus sandals and dress shoes are not permitted.
  • Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. The weather at the tour area is similar to Whistler Village.
  • Every participant must read and sign our Release of Liability prior to participating.
  • No bags, purses or backpacks are allowed. Limited storage is available to store very small personal belongings.
  • Secure all loose items (keys, cameras, change, etc.) in a sealed pocket. Small still and video cameras are allowed if you can secure them in a pocket. Professional cameras and equipment may be brought with prior permission (only as they can pose a security risk).
  • Please avoid wearing insect repellent containing DEET.
  • Tours run rain or shine. Please refer to "What is your cancellation policy?" (below) for more information.

Ziptrek has a patented braking system. Guests do not have to worry about controlling their own speed, nor are they involved in the braking process, so they can just sit back and enjoy the ride (and views!) We can safely stop riders up to 275 lbs no matter what the wind conditions. With a varying assortment of individual lines and years of experience, we have hundreds of thousands of successful brakes behind us.

If you are nervous about zipping, firstly we would recommend taking our Ziptrek Bear tour. As covered in the tour description, this is our original tour which is ideal for first time zippers and families with young children. The Bear tour is made of up some of our shorter, and less steep lines. That said, they are still a healthy length, and distance off the ground (see the tour description for details). If the guest chooses to exit the course after zipping only the first line, or chooses not to zip at all, there are no refunds given in either scenario. There are a couple points where we can remove you from the tour if you feel too nervous to continue, however if you happen to zip from Blackcomb to Whistler Mountain you must zip at least one more time to get back to Blackcomb Mountain so that we can take you off the tour. Again, no refunds will be given if a guest chooses to exit the course at any given time (where there is the option to exit).

The Eagle Tour now starts with a Gondola ride out of the village to access the first zipline (which is our 2nd longest line, but longest in the winter season). If a guest chooses not to zip the first line, they may exit by returning to, and downloading on the gondola to get back to the village. In that scenario, no refunds will be given. After zipping the first line, it is very doubtful that any guest would want to exit the course later on in the tour (from being scared) but if they did choose to do that, there will be no refunds given.

These same rules apply to our other Tours - Mammoth and Winter Après, which are made up of the ziplines associated with the above tours.

These rules also apply to The Sasquatch® Tour. In this case, after travelling to the start / launch of the zipline (via gondola and van ride), the guest decides not to go through with zipping the line - they would need to back-track accordingly. This involves returning on the van (when available), and then downloading on the Gondola back to the Blackcomb base. Again, no refunds will be given in this scenario.

Your Ziptrek tour will include several different ziplines  (Exception being The Sasquatch®, which is 1 monster zipline) over the duration of the tour. (2.5 - 4.5 hours, depending on which tour option). In between each of these ziplines you will be required to do some walking. This will be done on tree platforms, suspension bridges, stairs, as well as some trails and boardwalks throughout the old growth rainforest. You will actually be on each individual zipline for approximately 30 to 45 seconds. (Exception being, The Sasquatch®, which is an extremely long line at over 2 kms where guests can expect to be on the zipline for approximately 90 - 100 seconds). Your speed is determined by your weight and the weather conditions of the day.

Guests are required to meet and check-in at our set-up on the steps of the Excalibur Gondola in the main village (summer season) - see here. In winter season the check-in is at the Carleton Lodge. Transportation will be provided from this point. Guests will access complimentary transportation in the form of a van shuttle, or gondola ride, to the tour starting point on our course (exact location will depend on the particular tour).

Our tours operate every day of the year. There are several tour times available throughout each day and specific tour times vary depending on the day you chose to go zipping (and tour options, depending on the season). Please call our Guest Services Team or check the "Book Now" section for more specific times. Remember that we run several different Ziptrek tours in addition to our Tree Trek tours. See all Tour Options. All tours run at different times throughout the day (when available). Please decide which tour you would like to zip before booking, as you will not be able to change this the day of your tour and remember to book early! See our cancellation policy (separate FAQ below) for additional information.

Yes! We always recommend making reservations in advance. We book a maximum of 10 people (8 in winter) for each designated tour time, and therefore can sell out quickly. In order to guarantee spots, the tour you want, and the time that will work best with you please call our sales desk or click the "Book Now" link to make your reservations. The sooner you book the better! Please note that we have a 24 hour cancellation policy which allows you to change or cancel your tour 24 hours prior to the start of your tour. Summer and holidays are the busiest time of year for us and we recommend at least one weeks notice to book a tour during this busy time. This does not mean that if you call the day of that we won’t have any spots left, but that we cannot guarantee your preferred tour, or time, will still be available. Best to plan ahead to avoid potential disappointment.

Cancellations made within 24 hours prior to tour departure will be charged full tour price. Cancellations for groups of 10 or more participants require 72 hours notice or full charges apply. “Noshows” will also be charged full tour price. Charges for cancellations and noshows will be applied to the credit card provided. Ziptrek reserves the right to cancel tours due to inclement weather, foreseeable hazards, insufficient bookings, or events beyond our control. In these events, full refunds will be made or alternative dates offered.
