At Ziptrek Ecotours, sustainability drives everything we do. We are a part of nature, not apart from nature. As leaders in our
community, we educate visitors about The Natural Step principles, inspiring people with a memorable story of sustainability.
Ziptrek defines sustainability as “living within the Earth’s capacity to support life”. Through infrastructure design, business design,
educational models, supply chain, and community advocacy, we choose sustainable options to minimise our environmental impact.
Sustainable education is an integral aspect of each of our tours. Our goal is to help others understand more about sustainability in a fun and engaging way. Our tours are pinned on a scientific framework called The Natural Step. This framework consists of four conditions that fundamentally form the basis of a healthy system. As our expert guides move through our tours, they expand on these conditions and explain what we are doing and, more importantly, what you can do to help save our precious planet!
THE NATURAL STEP CONDITIONS
“Sustainable practices will ensure a healthy future for our enterprises and human society.”
Condition 1: “In a sustainable society, we only take what nature can replace.”
Condition 2: “In a sustainable society, we make only what nature can process.”
Condition 3: ‘In a sustainable society, we avoid breaking nature”
Condition 4: “In a sustainable society, everyone’s needs are met worldwide.”

As of 2024, we have committed to measuring and reporting on our impact on the planet as a business with the support of Synergy Enterprises, joining the Climate Action Partner Program.
The purpose of our greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory report is to measure our impact on climate change by measuring GHG emissions produced in company operations.
Frequent measurement is essential for identifying key areas where emissions increase or decrease over time, making it possible to develop targeted strategies to curb those emissions.
You can find our reports here:
Decarbonization is one of our main focuses at Ziptrek. We believe that a commitment towards lowering our impact starts with taking responsibility for the carbon produced from our operations.
We are now at the starting line of our decarbonizing journey, offsetting through Great Bear Carbon, the first Indigenous-owned carbon offset project in Canada. Dedicated to protecting the Great Bear Rainforest—one of the world's largest remaining intact rainforests.
Our goal is to create reduction targets for us to work towards. Once we have those set, we will display them here.
At Ziptrek, giving back has always been a part of our journey. As we look towards the future, Ziptrek will be committing a minimum of 1% of our annual revenue to supporting environmental stewardship, community wellbeing, and cultural preservation in the areas where we operate.
Through financial contributions, in-kind donations, and paid volunteer time, we invest in the communities and ecosystems that make our experiences possible.

We have set out to support organizations and initiatives in the following areas:
We gratefully and respectfully acknowledge that Ziptrek Ecotours operates on the shared unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and Lil̓wat7úl (Lil'wat Nation). We honour and celebrate their people, cultures, and traditions.
Without the guidance and collaboration of the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, we would not be able to deliver on all aspects of ecology, as we believe that Indigenous Knowledge is an important part of our message. We are proud to be a friend and Eagle Ally to the SLCC.
To learn more about the traditional caretakers of the Sea to Sky, we encourage all of our guests to visit the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre.
