In fairly short order, Ziptrek has become a significant part of the fabric of Whistler. Besides a strong and passionate focus on ensuring our guests and employees have the best possible experiences, we also recognize our responsibility of being solid members of the community.
In that regard, Ziptrek devotes considerable energy, time and resources in ensuring we support like minded organizations and initiatives. This not only includes our local community, but extends to the global one.
Some examples include:
Whistler Community Services Society - Support the WCSS in their overall mission and in the myriad of programs and services they provide that support social sustainability in the resort, and assisted the organization in their drive to make the Rebuild-It-Centre a reality.
Get Bear Smart Society - Working to provide a safe environment in which people and bears can co-exist in harmony. Doing amazing things, with very little funding.
Make a Wish Foundation - Have a read about one of the wishes Ziptrek was able to grant.
Green Kids - Long time supporters of this non-profit, live-theatre group, and the first charity in Canada dedicated solely to environmental education for young people through performance.
Kiva - Loans that change Lives. www.kiva.org. Find out about how micro-lending can make a wonderful difference in people’s lives. No one does it better.
Kiva’s mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty.
In-kind donations also make up a large part of our efforts in supporting various fundraisers and events, both locally and regionally throughout the year. Donation requests can be made via donationrequests@ziptrek.com where they will be evaluated and given consideration.
Beyond what Ziptrek does in supporting like minded organizations, internally we have passionate staff who volunteer their time to undertake various eco-friendly initiatives, along with organizing events that drive education and awareness around certain environmental issues. The "Ziptrek Giants" were formed as a staff collective who act as our Green Team - you can read more about them here.
This group also documents many of their initiatives, in a film series that they've named "On The Line". Showcased below are 2 installments. Give them a watch to gain a better understanding of the type of events the collective have pulled off.
Episode 1 - The Radicals - Film screening & Fundraiser
Episode 2 - eXXpedition Fundraiser and Workshop
The eXXpedition Fundraiser and Workshop was also captured and written up in one of our Latest News posts, which can be seen here.
Looking for some cooking / meal inspiration? The collective have put together this impressive cookbook which covers a variety of meal options and topics including snacks, plant-based eating, limiting food waste and buying Fair Trade. The complete online cookbook can be found here.
Stayed tuned for more initiatives from this industrious, thoughtful and progressive-minded group.
