How to Capture the Best Instagram-Worthy Content on a winter Ziptrek Whistler Tour

Whistler, British Columbia, is known for its jaw-dropping landscapes, and there’s no better way to experience it than on a thrilling Ziptrek tour.

Take in the incredible views of the rainforest, snowy mountain peaks, and frozen rivers. These views are so unique, that you'll want to snap a few shots to share with your followers.

But how do you capture the perfect Instagram-worthy content while ziplining through the air at 80+ kilometers per hour?

Our team has you covered! Here are some tips to help you get those amazing shots during your Ziptrek Whistler adventure.

1. Plan Your Shots Before You Go

Preparation is key! Before stepping onto the launching deck, consider the shots you want to capture. Here are some of go-to shots:

  • Scenic landscape shots: Capture the snowy forests and mountains from above.
  • Action shots: Show yourself zipping through the air (with a GoPro or an action camera).
  • Selfies with a twist: Take creative selfies that showcase the excitement of the ride, the ability to go upside down in our harnesses makes this easy!

2. Choose the Right Camera Gear

The best camera for the job depends on your style and preferences, but here are some options:

  • GoPro or action camera: Ziplining with Ziptrek is a hands-free experience as our guides do all the heavy lifting. A GoPro or similar action camera is ideal to capture your adventure, especially with a selfie stick.
  • Smartphone: If you prefer to use your phone, make sure you have a secure strap or case. A wide-angle setting can help you capture more of the breathtaking scenery.

3. Timing Is Everything

If you're aiming for a mid-zip shot, timing is crucial. Your best bet is to set your camera to burst mode or use a remote shutter. These techniques allow you to snap multiple photos in quick succession, capturing the moment while you're flying through the air. To get the best action shots:

  • Start snapping as you take off: Some of the best shots can be captured in the first moments of your descent when the backdrop is clear and you're fully engaged in the action.
  • Capture the surroundings, not just yourself: Let the vast Whistler wilderness fill the frame—snowy mountain peaks, ski runs, frozen lakes, and the endless sky make for incredible Instagram shots.

4. Play with Perspectives

Not every Instagram shot has to be taken from eye level. Experiment with different angles to create more dynamic photos:

  • Bird’s eye view: Try shooting downward to capture the stunning views of Whistler's landscape and Fitzsimmons Creek below you.
  • Wide-angle shots: Capture the expanse of the rainforest or mountain views by using wide-angle lenses to showcase the grandeur of your surroundings.
  • Point-of-view shots: A shot from your perspective can show the excitement of the ride, especially as you are zipping across the Whistler Valley.

5. Capture the “Before and After” Moments

Some of the most memorable shots come before and after you zip. Use these moments to snap photos that show the anticipation and exhilaration of your adventure:

  • Before: Take a shot of yourself getting ready to zipline, harnessed and excited, with the backdrop of the forest and mountains.
  • After: When you land, snap a photo or video of your elated expression and the zipline behind you to highlight the thrill you just experienced.

6. Focus on the Details

While the wide shots are stunning, don't forget about the details that can make your content unique:

  • Close-ups: Capture close-ups of your gear, like the harness, helmet, or gloves. Focus on the small elements of the experience to make your photos stand out.

7. Edit to Enhance the Experience

After your tour, spend some time editing your photos to bring out the best in them:

  • Increase contrast: Zipline tours often offer dramatic lighting, so playing with the contrast can make the landscape pop.
  • Enhance colors: Bring out shadows to enhance the snow, the blues of the sky, and the vibrant colors of your gear.
  • Sharpen the image: A little sharpening can go a long way, especially for action shots.

8. Use Hashtags and Captions to Share the Adventure

Once you’ve captured the perfect shot, don't forget to share your photos with the world! Use hashtags like #ZiptrekWhistler, #OnlyInWhistler, and #ZipliningAdventure to connect with other outdoor enthusiasts. And, of course, write captions that capture the excitement of your experience.

9. Stay Safe and Have Fun

While it’s important to get the perfect Instagram shot, your safety should always be the top priority. Ziptrek staff are trained to ensure a safe experience, so follow their instructions, enjoy the thrill of the ride, and leave the worrying to them.
